Best Travel Time
Spring and autumn are the best times to visit the Amalfi Coast. Summer is perfect for beach lovers, while winter is ideal for a city trip to Naples.
Spring (March to May)
Enjoy mild, pleasant temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C. The region blooms in spring, transforming the landscape into a lush green paradise. This season is ideal for hiking and sightseeing without the summer heat.
Summer (June to August)
Summer in Campania is hot and dry, with temperatures between 20°C and 35°C. The Amalfi Coast and Capri are prime spots for beachgoers, offering perfect weather for swimming and boat trips. However, expect large crowds, especially along the Amalfi Coast.
Autumn (September to November)
Autumn brings a pleasant cool-down after the hot summer, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C. September and October are particularly lovely, as the crowds thin out and the weather remains pleasant. November is much quieter, with many places closed for the season.
Winter (December to February)
Winter in southern Italy is mild, with temperatures between 5°C and 15°C. This is the quietest time to visit, with fewer tourists around. It’s the perfect season for a short trip to Naples, complemented by day trips to Pompeii and Vesuvius.
Arrival
By Plane
The main airport in the region is Naples (NAP). It is relatively large and offers numerous international connections. You can reach the city center of Naples by Alibus or taxi in about 20-30 minutes.
Another option is the Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi (QSR) airport. It is smaller and mainly serves domestic flights. A taxi ride or shuttle bus will quickly take you to the city center of Salerno.
By Train
Italy's railway network is well-developed, with many high-speed trains connecting Campania to other regions, especially through the main station Napoli Centrale. From Rome, you can reach Naples in about 70 minutes. Salerno is also well connected, with a travel time of about 2 hours from Rome.

Traveling in Campania
By Train
From Naples, the train is a great way to reach the Amalfi Coast and Caserta to visit the Royal Palace. The Circumvesuviana line connects Naples to Pompeii and Sorrento.
By Car
For Naples and the Amalfi Coast, we advise against using a car, especially during the high season. While the route along the Amalfi Coast is beautiful, heavy traffic can take away from the experience. The narrow roads are often congested, and parking spaces are scarce. If you decide to drive, opt for a small car.
An alternative is a moped tour, preferably guided, allowing your luggage to be transported by car to your next hotel along the route.
By Ferry
Ferries are one of the most beautiful and convenient ways to reach the Amalfi Coast. While they might be a bit pricier than other options, you’ll avoid the hassle of traffic. Operating from April to October, ferries are most frequent during the high season.
- NLG offers up to four daily trips from Naples (Molo Beverello) to Amalfi, with a crossing time of about 2 hours.
- Alilauro runs ferries on the same route, often stopping in Sorrento, which can extend the journey time. Depending on the route and type of ship, the trip takes between 1 hour and 45 minutes to 3 hours.
- It’s wise to arrive at the port at least an hour before departure, especially during peak season.
To explore the islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida, Alilauro, Caremar, and SNAV offer regular services from Naples, Sorrento, and other coastal towns. These trips are not only convenient but also provide breathtaking views of the coastline.
