A Must-See: The Golden Church

The basilica is a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture and Venice's top attraction. Known as the Church of Gold, it dazzles approximately 3 million visitors each year with over 8,000 square meters of golden mosaics and unique artworks depicting biblical scenes. A highlight is the magnificent Pala d'Oro, an altarpiece adorned with over 1,900 pearls and gemstones.

In addition to its stunning mosaics, the basilica features over 500 Byzantine columns and impressive marble inlays depicting animals and flowers. Visitors can also explore the crypt, where Saint Mark is laid to rest.

A visit to the Treasury, which houses relics and looted artworks from the time of the Fourth Crusade, is as worthwhile as exploring the crypt, which once contained the remains of Saint Mark.

Duration: Approximately 1.5 - 2 hours
