Chestnut Tree of 100 Horses

The "Hundred-Horse Chestnut" is the largest and oldest known chestnut tree in the world. Located on Linguaglossa road in Sant'Alfio, on the eastern slope of Mount Etna in Sicily — only from the volcano's crater — it is generally believed to be 2,000 to 4,000 years old. It is a sweet chestnut. "Guinness World Records" has listed it for the record of "Greatest Tree Girth Ever", noting that it had a circumference of 57.9 m when it was measured in 1780. Above ground, the tree has since split into multiple large trunks, but below ground, these trunks still share the same roots. An early 1895 image with a man next to the tree for perspective, shows it was closer to 10 m in diameter at breast height, rather than the claimed 18.5 m in diameter at breast height.

The "Zisa" is a grand 12th-century Norman hunting lodge and summer palace in the western area of Palermo, region of Sicily, Italy. The edifice was begun around 1165 by Arab craftsmen under the rule of the Norman conqueror of Sicily, king William I of Sicily. It was not finished until 1189, under the rule of William II. It is presently open to the public for tours.

Castello Normanno

The Castello Normanno, or Castle of Aci, is situated on a volcanic rock in Aci Castello, just 9 km from Catania. Panarea

"Panarea" is the smallest of the seven inhabited Aeolian Islands, a volcanic island chain in north of Sicily, southern Italy. It is a "frazione" of the "comune" of Lipari. There are currently about 280 residents living on the island year-round; however the population increases dramatically in summer with the influx of tourists especially during the months of July and August. In recent years, the island has become known internationally for its celebrity visitors.

Regional Archeological Museum Antonio Salinas

The "Antonino Salinas Regional Archeological Museum" is a museum in Palermo, Italy. It possesses one of the richest collections of Punic and Ancient Greek art in Italy, as well as many items related to the history of Sicily. Formerly the property of the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri, the museum is named after Antonino Salinas, a famous archaeologist and numismatist from Palermo who had served as its director from 1873 until his death in 1914, upon which he left it his major private collection. It is part of the Olivella monumental complex, which includes the Church of Sant'Ignazio all'Olivella and the adjoining Oratory.

Palazzo Abatellis

The 15th-century Palazzo Abatellis houses the Regional Gallery of Sicily, showcasing a wide array of Sicilian art from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. It is considered the best art museum in Palermo. The museum's highlights are the Triumph of Death fresco in the former palazzo chapel, a vivid representation of Death as a demonic skeleton, and Antonello da Messina's Virgin Annunciate, blending Italian and Flemish artistic influences. These pieces, among others, offer visitors deep insights into the evolution of art in Sicily.

Necropolis of Pantalica

The "Necropolis of Pantalica" is a collection of cemeteries with rock-cut chamber tombs in southeast Sicily, Italy. Dating from the 13th to the 7th centuries BC, there was thought to be over 5,000 tombs, although the most recent estimate suggests a figure of just under 4,000. They extend around the flanks of a large promontory located at the junction of the Anapo river with its tributary, the Calcinara, about northwest of Syracuse. Together with the city of Syracuse, Pantalica was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.

Catacombs in Syracuse

The Duomo of Taormina, also called Basilica of St. Nicholas of Bari, is located on a quaint piazza with great views, restaurants and a beautiful fountain. It's a popular spot for a break. The basilica dates back to the 13th century with characteristics of the Sicilian Romanesque-Gothic architecture. 

Inside, take note of the detailed Last Supper depiction in front of the altar and the Polyptych of Antonello de Saliba from 1504, featuring religious figures and scenes. The structure itself is simple, with a Latin cross, with three naves and three apses. The central nave is supported by six columns of pink Taormina marble with leaf-patterned capitals and fish scales. It is thought that these may come from the Greek-Roman theater of Taormina.

Villa Palagonia

The "Villa Palagonia" is a patrician villa in Bagheria, 15 km from Palermo, in Sicily, southern Italy. The villa itself, built from 1715 by the architect Tommaso Napoli with the help of Agatino Daidone, is one of the earliest examples of Sicilian Baroque.
