Inside, you'll find the remarkable Bishop's Throne, almost 1,000 years old, and some of the most important Romanesque works of art in Southern Italy. The basilica, dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra, houses the remains of the saint in its beautiful, vaulted crypt. It is said, that the remains were stolen from Turkey in 1087 by fishermen. That's why the basilica is a significant pilgrimage site for both Catholics and Orthodox Christians.

Explore the impressive medieval fortress originally built by Roger the Norman in the 12th century. It's a fascinating example of medieval architecture and really worth a visit. Enhanced by Frederick II of Swabia and later the Aragonese, this fortress features imposing bastions and corner towers overhanging a moat. Inside, you can explore the central courtyard, guard towers, and occasional art and sculpture exhibitions.

San Sabino Cathedral, perched in the heart of historic Bari, is an impressive example of Romanesque architecture dating back to the 12th century. The plain walls and deep arcades create a serene atmosphere, while the crypt, featuring Baroque elements, is dedicated to Madonna Odegitria. You can also explore the Museo del Succorpo, where remnants of the ancient Christian basilica and various Roman ruins can be seen beneath the cathedral.
